About me
Melissa Kay-Steves is a distinguished jewelry artist and instructor based in Stevensville, Maryland. With over 15 years of experience, she has honed her craft through both self-directed learning and formal education, including certifications from the PMC Connection program. Her passion for jewelry design led her to establish Charmtree Jewelry Studio in 2019, a metalsmith school dedicated to nurturing creativity and skill development among students of all levels.
At Charmtree Jewelry Studio, Melissa offers a diverse array of workshops encompassing fabrication, soldering, bezel setting, precious metal clay, forming, and more. The studio is renowned for its supportive learning environment, fostering a vibrant community of makers and facilitating lasting friendships among participants.
In addition to her teaching endeavors, Melissa continues to expand her own artistic repertoire, delving into techniques such as wire wrapping, fusing, enamel, and cold connections. She believes that continual learning and adaptation to current trends are essential for success in the jewelry medium.
Melissa’s creations are often inspired by nature and predominantly crafted in silver. Her innovative “Wings and Things” collection exemplifies her unique approach, utilizing actual insect wings to create intricate silver imprints, symbolizing a “second metamorphosis” for these creatures.
Melissa’s work has been featured in various exhibitions, including the Kent Island Federation of Arts’ annual jewelry show. Her pieces are available for purchase at select venues and through her studio’s events. For more information, to schedule a trunk show, or to explore her creations, visit www.charmtreejewelry.com.
Through her dedication to both her personal artistry and the cultivation of new talent, Melissa Kay-Steves continues to make a significant impact on the jewelry-making community in Maryland and beyond.
